About this tool
Every PDF carries properties: title, author, subject, keywords, and the software that produced it. They travel with the file and are visible to anyone who opens the document properties.
This tool reads and rewrites those fields locally. When you are sending a file outside your organisation, the fastest privacy win is often to clear them entirely.
How to edit metadata
- 1 Add the PDF; the current metadata is read from the file.
- 2 Edit the fields you want to change, or choose Remove all metadata.
- 3 Save and download — the new file has the updated properties.
Good to know
- Removing metadata clears the document information dictionary (title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer).
- Some producers also embed XMP metadata, which this tool does not rewrite.
Frequently asked questions
Why should I remove metadata before sharing?
Author names, internal file paths and software versions can reveal more than intended. Removing them is a routine step before publishing or sending documents externally.
Does this remove hidden content too?
No. It only touches document properties. Hidden layers, annotations and deleted-but-present content are separate concerns and require a dedicated redaction tool.
Is the metadata really gone?
The info dictionary is cleared in the output file. If the original producer embedded XMP data, that block may remain — verify with a PDF inspector if it matters.
